Acquisitions consolidate the layers around engagement
Engagement and data vendors buy the layers around them, identity, content, intent and data services, instead of building them.
The pattern so far
Since May 2026 a steady flow of acquisitions has been buying the layers around customer engagement: identity graphs (Bluecore, LiveRamp assets), content (Contentful), service agents (Fin), decisioning (Aampe), intent data (Warmly, Common Room), composable CDPs (Simon AI, Algonomy) and data services (CaliberMind, Lovelytics). The number of deals is not the measure; what matters is which layer is being bought. Most of the deals recorded so far were announced or pending close, so the pattern has been confirmed every month but has not accelerated.
Trajectory
Month by month
- Confirmed Reconstructed
Data and analytics layers were bought. Integrate acquired CaliberMind for B2B data governance and revenue attribution, and CDW agreed to buy Lovelytics, a Databricks partner, for about 525 million dollars, pending close.
- Confirmed Reconstructed
Composable CDPs and data platforms changed hands. Monetate acquired Simon AI, ADA completed its acquisition of Algonomy, the first closed deal in the pattern, and Bending Spoons agreed to buy Airtable.
- Confirmed Reconstructed
Identity and intent were bought. Hightouch offered Publicis up to 1.2 billion dollars for LiveRamp's identity assets, HubSpot signed to acquire Warmly for person-level visitor identification, and Zoom bought Common Room for buyer intent.
- Confirmed Reconstructed
The agent story turned from build to buy. Salesforce signed definitive agreements for Contentful (content) and Fin (customer-service agents), both pending close, and MoEngage acquired Aampe to bring one autonomous agent per customer into its decisioning. The Watch records the Aampe deal as announced, so no acquisition counts as closed in the month.
- Emerging Reconstructed
Canva bought Ortto, which redrew the mid-market CEP map, and InsiderOne agreed to buy Bluecore and its retail identity graph ahead of an IPO.
