The pattern so far

From July 2026 agents stopped waiting for a prompt. Always-on background agents, webhook triggers, cron schedules for saved workflows and persistent authenticated sessions arrived between July and August, in AI tools and in a CDP. In September the administrative layer followed: a switch for scheduled tasks, an expiry for their approvals, triggers that pause when an agent changes owner.

  1. Confirmed Reconstructed

The controls around unattended runs followed. Claude Desktop added local scheduled tasks, then a switch that stops every scheduled task and a cap on how long their approvals last, and Gemini Enterprise disables an agent's schedule and event triggers when its ownership is transferred.

  2. Confirmed Reconstructed

Unattended execution arrived at three AI vendors and one CDP in the same fortnight. ChatGPT tasks can fire on new Gmail, Slack and GitHub events and keep authenticated sessions for future tasks, Antigravity added Remote Control for agent sessions, and Treasure AI shipped Action Schedules that run saved agentic workflows on a cron cadence.
