AI Watch: Week 42, 2026

Week 42, 2026
Coverage window 9 – 15 October 2026.

For the interpretation of this week, and why configuration written once for an agentic tool now needs a calendar, see the companion essay: Weekly AI Tools That Matter to Me: Part 12, Week 42. This page is the record; the essay is the read.

This week’s record

Claude Desktop removed the old names of several managed-configuration keys and documented that a profile still using them now behaves as if the setting were absent, which for extension signing means unsigned extensions load.

  • Google made Gemini 4 Argon generally available in the Gemini app, the API and Gemini Enterprise, where it stays off by default until the toggle switches on from 27 October.
  • Gemini Enterprise Workflow Builder can now connect to Salesforce, Microsoft Teams and Notion to search data and automate actions.
  • Google began rolling out skills in the Gemini app and delayed skills in Workspace to launch them “in a safe and reliable manner”.
  • Claude Desktop now completes an admin-enabled import from a third-party deployment, including local MCP servers and skills, without asking each user to confirm.
  • Antigravity 2.23.0 added a permissions preset picker in the message box; OpenAI put Composer predictions in Codex into beta.

Anthropic Claude DesktopReleased (Oct 13)Admin / breakingv2.37337.1: former managed-configuration key names removed (isDxtEnabled, isDxtSignatureRequired, isDxtDirectoryEnabled, enduserAttribution, trustBootstrapLocalExec, inferenceGatewayHeaders). Google AntigravityReleased (Oct 12)Agents / permissions2.23.0: permissions preset picker in the message box, with Use Global Settings to revert a project; .zip and folder attachments; Fix with Agent for MCP servers that fail to start; plugin command prompts show the plugin’s name; fix for a custom agent that ignored skills, rules, plugins and hooks listed with relative paths. 2.23.1 (Oct 13) fixes the license pickerChangelog

Late captures in this edition. Claude Desktop v2.31226.0 (8 October): the desktopHome key for Unified Claude (beta), which combines Chat and Cowork; without the key an organisation stays on the current split “until November 10, when Unified Claude goes on for all orgs”; scheduled tasks now stop and show the prompt for a tool marked “ask” instead of skipping it; a skill switched off in Customize is no longer offered (Changelog). Anthropic published a Usage Policy update on 8 October, effective 12 November, with a new section on deceptive campaigns and artificial activity, “whether political or commercial” (Anthropic), and launched the Anthropic Cyber Mission the same day. OpenAI added plugin access by role for Enterprise and Edu workspaces on 8 October (Enterprise and Edu release notes). Gemini Enterprise let administrators enable Claude Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5 in AI developer tools on 8 October, off by default with consumption billing. How this is compiled. Each edition is assembled from official release notes, changelogs and newsrooms. An AI assistant does the first-pass scan, reading release notes in a browser or through vendor-published Markdown routes, and I review and edit before publishing. Items are checked against the primary source; anything I could not confirm is marked inline. Dates and status reflect what was published as of the current-as-of date and can change.

Corrections and method notes. Spot an error? Tell me and I will fix it in the next edition. Several items dated 8 October, the closing day of the previous window, were published after that edition was compiled and are recorded here as late captures. Cross-note: Gemini Enterprise’s Salesforce connection and Anthropic’s commercial deceptive-campaign rules are also relevant to MarTech Watch, Week 42.

AI Watch is compiled and edited by Andrea Veggiani, Head of Cross-Channel Marketing & MarTech Solutions at BitBang.
