MarTech Watch: Week 33, 2026

Week 33, 2026
Coverage window 6 – 14 August 2026.

For the interpretation of this week, why a tool count is only half a disclosure and why the opt-out path became the most regulated surface in the stack, see the companion essay: Weekly MarTech Signals That Matter to Me: Part 16, Week 33. This page is the record; the essay is the read.

This week’s record

Two threads, and they are not the same thread.

  • Klaviyo published 260-plus new MCP tools on 11 August, giving agents and developers programmatic control of an account: read data, build segments, run campaigns, author flows, manage catalogs, from Claude, from OpenAI, or from a custom agent. This is the largest published agent surface any customer engagement platform on this watchlist has shipped, and it is a one-sentence release note. There is no published session lifetime, no permission model and no statement of what an agent authoring a campaign can do that an operator could not. MoEngage’s 30-day session ceiling, published last week, remains the only hard governance number anyone has put in writing.
  • The opt-out path became an audited, programmable surface, three times in four days. Twilio shipped Consent Management API support for toll-free network-level opt-out overrides on 12 August, so consent captured on a web form or in a preference centre can clear a carrier-enforced block that previously only a START keyword could lift. CalPrivacy fined a data broker on 11 August for putting friction in that same path, and specifically for requiring identity data it did not need in order to process the request. IAB Tech Lab finalised DDRF 2.0 on 11 August, putting deletion-request identity into signed JSON Web Tokens. Consent has stopped being a boolean on a profile.
  • Adobe Marketo Engage published August ‘26 release notes on 10 August, ending a quiet stretch since 18 June, with rollout starting 14 August: a new UI, an AI Script Builder for personalisation scripts, and Disable Campaigns on Archive, the last two marked coming soon.
  • Adobe Journey Optimizer added personalized PDF attachments in API-triggered emails (12 August), fetching recipient-specific documents from the Data Landing Zone at send time so upstream document generation stays where it is, and LINE channel support in Limited Availability, the first named channel to arrive through July’s Custom outbound channel.
  • Adobe Journey Optimizer B2B 2026.8 deploys 14 August, taking person journeys from beta to general availability alongside person lists, variant split paths, journey re-entry and external action nodes for the person side.
  • Treasure AI shipped seven items, including per-chat agent sandbox isolation on 12 August, published with an unusually direct admission that customer records and exports written outside a work folder had been accumulating in a location no file browser exposed, and a description of how those files were migrated somewhere visible.
  • Tealium opened its August section on 12 August with Connected TV and Podcast connector categories, and an end-of-life date of 15 December 2026 for the legacy Amazon Ads Conversions action.
  • Bending Spoons agreed to acquire Airtable for $1.285 billion enterprise value on 4 August, recorded here as a dated late capture from the previous window.

Quiet this week, verified in browser: Braze (next release ~20 August), Adobe AEP, Bloomreach (1.316 does not exist), Iterable (next ~21 August), MoEngage, Optimove, InsiderOne product feed.

Not verified this week, and said so: Salesforce Marketing Cloud and Account Engagement, Sprinklr, Cordial, Pega, ActiveCampaign, Mailchimp, Showpad, Pacvue, Zeotap.

What changed this week

PlatformWhat changedSource
KlaviyoShipped (Aug 11)MCP / Agent surfaceKlaviyo MCP Server, new tools. 260-plus new MCP tools giving AI agents and developers full programmatic control of a Klaviyo account: read data, build segments, run campaigns, author flows and manage catalogs, from Claude, OpenAI or a custom agent. Published as a single sentence with no session lifetime, no permission model and no write-boundary statement. The scope disclosure is unprecedented on this watchlist; the governance disclosure is absent.Klaviyo What’s New
KlaviyoShipped (Aug 11)Agentic authoringComposer, analytics agent updates: up to 365 days of data, account currency, and audience analysis in natural language. Composer, clarifying questions in campaigns: Composer asks follow-up questions when a prompt is underspecified rather than guessing, which is the right default for anything that can author a send. Billing Analytics Dashboard: per-account spend, historical trends and invoices.Klaviyo What’s New
TwilioGenerally available (Aug 12)Consent / ComplianceConsent Management API supports toll-free network-level opt-out overrides, GA. An opt-out on a US or Canadian toll-free number was previously enforced at the network level and liftable only by the recipient texting an opt-in keyword. Valid re-opt-in consent captured through another channel can now be logged through the Consent Management API, and Twilio passes the signal downstream to clear the block, eliminating error codes 21610 and 30004 for those recipients. A carrier-level suppression that used to live outside the customer’s data model is now a state the customer’s own consent record can change, with the evidence held customer-side.Twilio changelog
TwilioAnnounced (Aug 12–13)DeprecationFunctions Classic retirement. No new Functions (Classic) or assets from 13 September 2026; migration of all active Classic functions, URLs, names, environment variables and deployed code runs 14 September to 26 October 2026. Twilio states no customer action is required. Separately, REST API end-user certificate rotation on 9 September 2026 for anyone pinning certificates, with a test endpoint live from 12 August.Twilio changelog
Twilio EmailGenerally available (Aug 6)DeliverabilityDedicated IPs and IP management, GA. Automatic 41-day warm-up schedule with shared-pool overflow protection, custom IP pools, per-subaccount assignment and fallback configuration.Twilio changelog
Adobe Journey OptimizerShipped (Aug 12)Channels / IntegrationPersonalized PDF attachments in API-triggered emails. Up to five PDFs per email, static or recipient-specific. Recipient-specific files are fetched from the Data Landing Zone at send time, with each file’s location passed in the API payload, so existing upstream document generation stays in place. Transactional API-triggered campaigns only; not supported in journeys or orchestrated campaigns. Larger volumes require the PDF attachment add-on. Note that the send path now carries a runtime dependency on a storage layer.AJO release notes
Adobe Journey OptimizerShipped (Aug 11–12)ChannelsLINE channel support, Limited Availability, in orchestrated campaigns, supporting text, stickers, images, video, location data and Flex Messages. The first named channel delivered through the Custom outbound channel shipped on 31 July. Also bulk operations in journey inventory (add to package, delete, move to folder, edit tags, manage access) and a new Content Simulation experience rendering all variants in one scrollable grid.AJO release notes
Adobe Journey Optimizer B2BDeploying (Aug 14)Platform release2026.8, deployment date 14 August, phased. Person journeys move from beta to early deployment for general availability, orchestrating lead-based marketing on Experience Platform audiences and data. Person lists, static and dynamic. Variant split path nodes now available on both account and person journeys. Journey re-entry for person journeys. Multiple triggers and filters in Listen-for-event on account journeys. External split path and external action nodes for person journeys. New AEP relational datasets in the sandbox. The person side has caught up with the account side on nearly every node type.AJO B2B release notes
Adobe Marketo EngageDeploying (Aug 14)Platform releaseAugust ‘26 release notes published, standard cycle starting 14 August with phased rollout. New UI, described as visual only. Email Designer Script Builder, an AI assistant for personalization scripts, coming soon. Disable Campaigns on Archive: archiving a folder now disables and deschedules every campaign in that folder tree, coming soon. Announcements confirm access_token query-parameter removal after 31 August 2026, error 1003 for listId lists of 10,000+ leads from 30 September 2026, and error 1080 for Merge Leads calls over 25 IDs, in force since 31 July. New: Campaign Run ID now returns as a number rather than a double-quoted string.Marketo release notes
Treasure AIShipped (Aug 12)Agent governanceAgent Sandbox isolation. Every chat in Treasure AI Studio now runs in its own environment: work-folder files persist, but anything the AI writes elsewhere, including working files, temporary files and installed packages, belongs to that chat and is removed with it. The stated reason is that customer records, exports and downloaded data left outside a work folder were accumulating in a location no file browser exposed. Existing files were migrated into a visible MIGRATED_HOME folder. The most direct agent-governance disclosure of the week from any vendor in either series.Treasure AI release notes
Treasure AIShipped (Aug 13)Agentic work / SkillsWork Folder Actions: a recurring workflow saved in a work folder and rerun with one click or /<name>; an action is explicitly a work folder skill, convertible in both directions. Access all work folders from any chat: agents read and write across every work folder, with output landing in the chat’s own folder unless directed elsewhere, and same-name moves refused rather than overwritten.Treasure AI release notes
Treasure AIShipped (Aug 10–11)Data layerBehavior Activation multi-table support: up to four behavior tables in a single activation, up from one, through the Audience API using a new syndicationBehaviors array in place of the deprecated syndicationBehavior. The Console does not yet support creating or editing multi-table activations and blocks saving one, to avoid silently losing the extra tables’ settings. An API-ahead-of-UI split, declared openly with the failure mode named. Also: SFMC V2 Export composite primary keys of up to four fields via a new primary_columns parameter, Meta Dataset Quality offline event type with four offline sub-scores, and a test_mode column in LINE delivery logs (historical rows are null, so filter with IS NOT TRUE).Treasure AI release notes
TealiumShipped (Aug 12)Tag / Data layerAugust section opened, items dated 12 August. Two new server-side connector categories, Connected TV & Video and Podcast & Audio, with connectors for MNTN, iSpot TV, Roku, Viant, The Trade Desk, Podscribe and Veritonic. Insert and Copy Mappings actions promoted to the connector actions menu. Legacy Amazon Ads Conversions action reaches end of life 15 December 2026, replaced by Send Conversion. Client-side: Reddit Pixel adds product-level quantity and itemPrice and carries pixel_id in the library URL, both requiring a tag update; a Tealium Collect fix now URL-encodes visitor IDs, which had been breaking data-layer enrichment for custom visitor IDs containing / or =. That last one is an argument for having a character policy on custom identity namespaces.Tealium release notes
HubSpotPublished (Aug 11)Agent surfaceAgent CLI appears in the newsroom on 11 August, in a customer story rather than a launch post, alongside Agent Hub and Agent Builder from 23 July. A command-line agent surface on a CRM raises a different governance question from an in-app agent, and it has not been documented as a launch.HubSpot newsroom
BrazeNo items in windown/aNo August release. Newest dated release remains 23 July 2026. On the four-week cadence the next lands around 20 August. The remote MCP server remains the standing watch, and the Klaviyo disclosure has raised the bar for what a published scope looks like.Braze releases
Bloomreach EngagementNo items in windown/aNo net-new. 1.315 was published 5 August with a rollout window to 10 August; a direct path probe of /changelog/1316 does not resolve. Note for anyone following this source: the changelog index rendered 1.314 on 14 August, two releases behind. Probe by direct path.Bloomreach changelog
Adobe Real-Time CDP / AEPNo items in windown/aNo August release. 28 July unchanged, page last updated 31 July. The write-time profile consolidation change was stated as rolling out through the end of July; no completion notice has been published, so whether it is finished is still open.AEP release notes
Salesforce Marketing CloudNot verifiedn/aNot verified this run. The monitored release-notes URL returned an empty modal shell in the browser. No Winter ‘27 notes located at the vendor, though community channels are circulating preview material. Reported as unverified rather than as no news. The SMS and WhatsApp consent mapping deadline is 17 August 2026, three days after this record.n/a

Mergers, acquisitions and corporate moves

Bending Spoons agrees to acquire AirtableAll-cash transaction at an enterprise value of $1.285 billion, implying an equity value of approximately $2.25 billion once Airtable’s net cash is included. Airtable ARR approximately $480 million as of June 2026, growing over 20% year on year, across more than 500,000 organisations including 80% of the Fortune 100. Expected to close later in 2026 subject to regulatory approval; both companies operate independently until then. Bending Spoons’ first acquisition since its Nasdaq listing on 1 July 2026, following AOL in January and Eventbrite in March. Note on figures: trade coverage carried a $2.3 billion headline; the numbers above are the company’s own. Airtable sits underneath a great deal of marketing operations work as a system of record for campaign planning and workflow, and the acquirer’s declared model is deep transformation with AI as a central component, so continuity should not be assumed.Aug 4, 2026 (late capture from the previous window)Bending Spoons newsroom
Standing watches, unchangedMonetate and Simon AI still operate separately, with the merged data model and the question of whose consent and identity model survives still open. ADA and Algonomy likewise. BlueConic and Blueshift integration and consent model still unpublished. Hightouch and LiveRamp unresolved for an eighth week.n/an/a

CalPrivacy fines LocateSmarterThe California Privacy Protection Agency Board ordered LocateSmarter LLC, an Iowa data broker, to pay $116,490 and change its practices, on two findings: failing to register as a data broker in time, and requiring Californians to provide the last four digits of their Social Security number before they could opt out of the sale of their personal information. CalPrivacy holds that this could intimidate consumers out of exercising the right and separately violates the CCPA’s data minimisation requirement, following its January 2026 enforcement advisory on minimisation applied to consumer requests. The fine was substantial even though only a handful of consumers submitted requests, which removes the volume defence. First CalPrivacy action against a data broker under the CCPA, and the first under both the CCPA and the Delete Act. Follows the March 2026 Ford decision, a $375,703 fine explicitly for adding unnecessary friction to the opt-out process. The design consequence: identity verification on a rights request is not a free action, and the verification threshold that is prudent for personalisation is a minimisation breach when reused to gate a deletion or opt-out request. Very few consent implementations treat these as two different identity problems.Aug 11, 2026CalPrivacy
IAB Tech Lab privacy standards updatesProposed GPP updates supporting the Fifth Amended and Restated Multi-State Privacy Agreement: removing MSPA coverage for the previous state-by-state approach, eliminating Service Provider and Opt-Out Option Modes, removing secondary usage consents, and simplifying notice and choice fields. Open for public comment until 11 September 2026. Separately, DDRF Version 2.0 is finalised after a comment period opened in autumn 2025: clarified identity and deletion-request JSON Web Token definitions, improved result feedback and troubleshooting, strengthened framework integrity, and support for implementation-specific extensions. DDRF 2.0 is the part with architectural weight, because a deletion request now carries a signed, structured identity assertion that an identity graph either can or cannot answer. Two corrections to secondary coverage: this is dated 11 August, not 12, and the primary release does not mention Global Privacy Control at any point.Aug 11, 2026IAB Tech Lab
EU AI Act Article 50(2), provenance markingAnthropic has signed the EU AI Act’s Article 50(2) Code of Practice on Transparency of AI-Generated Content, as a provider of both generative AI models and generative AI systems, and published its implementation plan. Claude models launched in the EU on or after 2 August 2026 will support machine-readable marking at launch: embedded watermarks in generated text, digitally signed provenance metadata in generated files where supported. Marks apply across the Claude Platform API, Claude, Claude Code, Claude Cowork and Claude Tag, wherever Claude is offered, worldwide, though some platforms or features may not support every marking type. Third-party detection support is committed. Pre-2 August models fall under the law’s transition period, with marking support in progress. Two things not to repeat from trade coverage: the page states commitments and plans rather than shipped behaviour everywhere today, and the widely reported 2 December 2026 backfill date does not appear in the vendor’s own document. The MarTech consequence: marketing copy generated through these surfaces carries a machine-readable mark that travels with copied text, and the mark indicates that the model processed the content, not that it authored it.Aug 11, 2026How Claude marks AI-generated content
Garante, email open-tracking pixelDeadline unchanged: 29 October 2026, six months from publication in the Gazzetta Ufficiale on 29 April 2026. CNIL published nothing further on its own pixel recommendation in this window. This remains the item to build a client checklist around.CarriedGarante
Detect-only, not traced to primary sources this runNew York and Maryland enacting youth data privacy laws with limits on targeted advertising and tighter consent for 13 to 17 year olds; the UK CMA opening a consumer-protection investigation into Microsoft 365 subscription practices and issuing its first DMCC Act fines in a drip-pricing case; a first US Senate hearing on AI-driven pricing and agentic shopping assistants alongside FTC rulemaking supported by 16 state attorneys general. All surfaced on the CDP Institute feed on 12 August and all deserving primary-source treatment.Aug 12, 2026CDP Institute news

Method note

Every release-notes page and changelog in this record was read in a browser, not fetched. Klaviyo and HubSpot required reading the DOM directly, because both under-return through text extraction; this cost the previous edition two dated Klaviyo items, which are corrected in the internal digest. Bloomreach was probed by direct path increment because its changelog index rendered two releases behind on the day of the scan. Salesforce Marketing Cloud could not be read and is recorded as unverified rather than quiet.

A source pre-flight ran before scanning and caught one silent move: the Anthropic Claude apps release notes now redirect from docs.anthropic.com to support.claude.com, with the old URL still returning content, so nothing would have failed loudly.

Two dates in this record were corrected against the CDP Institute feed, which dates items by its own publication date rather than the source’s. That feed is a detection layer, not a citation layer.
